Rather than adhering to a single genre or thematic program within a poem, the sequencing of images in each work reflects photography’s capacity to move associatively and intuitively between ways of seeing. The images are connected less by category than by visual resonance, emotional tone, intellectual suggestion, and the shifting relationships that emerge between one photograph and the next. The sequence functions as a kind of visual poem or stream of consciousness in which meaning accumulates gradually through juxtaposition.

I have illustrated one approach to engaging with visual poems through an extended interpretation of the poem titled Oneirocriticism. I would recommend first viewing the poem without annotation. It is located in the Oneirocriticism folder. Proceed through the images in the order presented; you can move from one image to the next using the arrow keys. Afterwards, view Oneirocriticism Analysis.
